Note:
Current categories of driving license established by the Resolution of the Committee of the Road Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In order to pass the exams for obtaining any category of license you need to provide a medical certificate in the form №073/u (formerly certificate 082/u), as well as a certificate of completion of courses issued by the relevant educational organization, not required for some “light” categories of rights (A, B, A1, B1). Independently trained persons take the exams (STA RK) in the Special centers at the place of application or in the PEP.

Category L – Motor vehicles
Mopeds, motorcycles, mopeds
Category L1 – A two-wheeled vehicle, the maximum design speed of which does not exceed 50 km/h, and characterized by:
– In the case of an internal combustion engine, an engine displacement not exceeding 50 cc, or
– In the case of an electric motor, a rated maximum continuous power not exceeding 4 kW.
Category L2 – A three-wheeled vehicle with any arrangement of wheels, the maximum design speed of which does not exceed 50 km/h and characterized by:
– In the case of a positive-ignition internal combustion engine, an engine displacement not exceeding 50 cc, or
– in case of another type of internal combustion engine, a maximum effective power not exceeding 4 kW or
– in the case of an electric motor, the rated maximum continuous load power not exceeding 4 kW
Motorcycles, scooters, tricycles
Category L3 – A two-wheeled vehicle whose engine displacement (in the case of an internal combustion engine) exceeds 50 cc (or) its maximum design speed (with any engine) exceeds 50 km/h.
Category L4 – Three-wheeled vehicle with wheels asymmetrical in relation to the median longitudinal plane, the operating volume of the engine (in the case of an internal combustion engine) exceeding 50 cc and/or the maximum design speed (with any engine) exceeding 50 km/h.
Category L5 – A three-wheeled vehicle with wheels symmetrical in relation to the median longitudinal plane of the vehicle, the operating volume of the engine (in the case of an internal combustion engine) exceeding 50 cc and (or) the maximum design speed (with any engine) exceeding 50 km/h.

Category L6 – A four-wheeled vehicle, the unladen weight of which does not exceed 350 kg excluding the mass of the batteries (in the case of an electric vehicle), the maximum design speed not exceeding 50 km/h, and characterized by:
– in the case of a positive-ignition internal combustion engine, an engine displacement not exceeding 50 cm3, or
– in case of another type of internal combustion engine, a maximum effective engine power not exceeding 4 kW, or
– in the case of an electric motor, the rated maximum continuous power of the motor not exceeding 4 kW.
Category L7 – A four-wheeled vehicle, other than a vehicle of category L6, whose unladen weight does not exceed 400 kg (550 kg for a vehicle designed to carry goods) excluding the weight of batteries (in the case of an electric vehicle) and the maximum effective engine power does not exceed 15 kW.
