The first task in treating any significantly bleeding wound is to stop bleeding. This should be done quickly and purposefully, since significant blood loss during trauma is debilitating and even life-threatening. If large amounts of blood loss can be prevented, it will make wound care and special treatment much easier and reduce the effects of trauma and injury.
