181. Vehicles should move in a column only in one row as close as possible to the right edge of the carriageway, except in cases when they are accompanied by operational vehicles.
When moving in a convoy of more than ten vehicles, they are escorted by at least two vehicles with a blue flashing light or blue and red beacons (leading and closing).
182. The speed of movement of the column and the distance between vehicles are set by the senior of the column or by the mode of movement of the lead vehicle in accordance with the requirements of these Rules. A convoy moving unaccompanied by operational vehicles is divided into groups (no more than five vehicles in each), the distance between which should allow the group to be overtaken by other vehicles.
183. When the convoy stops on the road, an alarm system is activated on all vehicles.
184. The member of the column fulfills the requirements of the leader and the last one.
185. A member of the column maintains a safe distance.
186. It is not allowed to violate the pattern of movement of the column, including overtaking other members of the column, as well as to leave the column or make a spontaneous stop, except for an emergency stop.
187. Before starting the movement, the participants of the convoy must start the engines and turn on the low beam headlamps or daytime running lights. In case of unavailability, the participant of the column informs the last column about it. The one who closes the column blocks the lane where the column should leave and make sure that nothing prevents the beginning of the column’s movement, after which give permission to the leader to start moving.
After receiving the permission of the last one, the leader of the column gives an audible signal and begins to move. The other members of the column begin to move behind the leader of the column. The last one joins the column only after the last member of the column leaves.
188. In order to make a stop, the driver gives a braking signal and turns on the right turn signal. The presenter reduces his speed, pulls over to the side of the road and stops parallel to the road.
The participants of the column behind the leader pull over to the side of the road and stop, observing the distance and the formation pattern.
189. Upon arrival at the parking lot, the convoy member stops at the entrance and resumes movement after the end of the parking maneuver by the vehicle moving in front.
190. If an emergency stop is necessary, the convoy participant notifies the leader of this by voice command, gesture, by means of communication and (or) gives additional signals with high-beam headlamps and an audible signal, after which he gradually reduces the speed until the vehicle comes to a complete stop.
191. Intersections, railway crossings and traffic lights must be passed in compliance with the requirements of Chapter 15 of these Rules using the necessary signals. When the column breaks, the last one warns the leader by voice command, gesture or by means of communication. After receiving the information, the moderator makes decisions about stopping or continuing the movement with or without changing the speed of movement, which he informs the last one. When the column is being restored, the last one informs the leader about this.
192. The participants of the column must promptly notify the leader and (or) the last of the circumstances that impede the normal movement of the column.
